Port of Oakland container volumes down

Total container loads at the Port of Auckland in June were down 1.5% compared to the same month a year earlier.

US ports handled 163,000+ TEUs last month, compared to 166,000+ TEUs in June 2021. Total throughput, including empty containers, dropped by 29%.

On the other hand, loading imports continued to increase. Imports loaded edged up to 95,530 TEU last month, compared with 95,060 TEU a year ago. This is an increase of 0.5%. Notably, this trend has created record import volumes.

However, the increase in imports was offset by a decrease in loaded exports. Export containers loaded in June reached 68,000+ TEU, compared to 70,000+ TEU last year. The figure was down 4.2%, reflecting ongoing challenges from disruptions to vessel schedules and a lack of sufficient capacity for ships departing Auckland for full exports.
